My Blog

Life has an interesting way of unfolding. Even with the best planning, things often go askew. Take the economic situation. Maybe it will shake out and our 401K will revive itself, or maybe we will all be planting victory gardens for survival. Fortunately, in spite of the pressures and stress, life is full of good times, avid learning, and a sense of grace. I would like to share some of that with you.

With a tripod (almost necessary) take an image 3 or more times with different exposures and using Photoshop or in my case Photomatix, blend them together to get a surreal image with a wide range of tones and depth. You need to pull it into Photoshop after you have done the basics in Photomatix.

The B&W often works quite well. It sets a different mood, but sometimes the color is very powerful as well. I have adjust my images to work well with the Epson 4000 printer, otherwise they have a purple tint. Once I figured that out, printer is very consistent. This image is from a lilly in the front yard, with late afternoon light. See samples.

Not merely putting skills into practice, but achieving results that go beyond your expectations. This is a shot that Kristina took with a small Canon G9 while we were on a hike during Christmas vacation in Tucson. I was standing nearby taking pictures as well, but I did not see this image or the opportunity. I am jealous as well as happy for her. This is really a VERTICAL image, not horizontal (but my blog cuts it off.) For a full image click here.

It was a very good time. I managed to take a few (at least to me) very good photos, and a couple poor, but fun, family videos.
